ESTATE: Regional Italian Cooking & Festive Drinking

We are doing it again – call us crazy but we just love opening restaurants!

The General’s Daughter has been a mainstay in the Sonoma “restaurant scene” for over 10 years.  We are so fortunate to have an opportunity to create a completely new concept called ESTATE on this amazing property.  Right down the street from the girl & the fig, we will feature the best of Sonoma’s bounty including much of our own “ESTATE-GROWN” produce and “ESTATE-CRAFTED” products, including salumi, confits, infusions, and other surprises.  With Regional Italian recipes, antipasti, family style entrees and innovative cocktails we look forward to pleasing your palate.  We will spend the next two months, creating, renovating, decorating, training, hiring, tasting, drinking, and what I call serious playing.  Our goal is to CREATE a really unique restaurant that will intermingle Sonoma and Italy, with layers of contrast in food, art, wine, and cocktails.  We will keep you posted!

the fig pantry Not to Reopen
Thank you so much for your overwhelming support over the closure of the fig pantry in the last few months.  The support we have received has been very much appreciated during this transition period for our company, and we are very grateful to have such loyal customers and neighbors.

Unfortunately, management at the girl & the fig has decided not to reopen the fig pantry.  After much deliberation, the decision has been made to focus on other aspects of the girl & the fig and to plan for the future of these facets of the company.  All of us at the girl & the fig are very devastated at the loss of the fig pantry, but are also very eager to see what the future holds.

While there are no finalities at this time, we are hopeful that whomever the new owners will be, they will maintain the level of quality and service that our customers are accustomed to.

In spite of this loss, we will continue to provide the same quality of products and level of hospitality as always, and we hope that you will continue to visit us at our other locations in the future.  Thank you again for your continued support!

Wine News: The 2006 Vintage of Très Bonnes Années
Look for the second vintage of Très Bonnes Années to make an appearance on
our wine lists this month!  Produced again for the girl & the fig by Jeff Cohn of JC Cellars, this 2006 vintage is made of 100% Syrah from Rockpile Vineyards in Sonoma County and fermented in French Meyrieux barrels, which gives the wine its rich and smooth characteristic.

Rockpile Vineyards is located in Northern Sonoma County at an elevation of 2000 feet.  It’s beautifully rugged ridge top and hillside location has had an interesting and unique grape growing history spanning the last 130 years.  During this time, the vineyards have produced a plentiful variety of grapes for some extremely outstanding muscular and complex red wines, and we are very excited that Jeff Cohn has given us the gift of Rockpile
Syrah for our second vintage!

What should you look forward to when you finally get to taste the 2006 vintage of Très Bonnes Années?  As winemaker Jeff Cohn says, “Aromatically this wine is pure roasted earth with black cherries, crème de cassis and smoked meats. On the palate the wine is so silky at the front palate, but explodes with an intensity of layers upon layers of flavors that just coats the palate with a roller coaster experience that range from black cherry pie, fields of lavender and herbs to Provence and just a touch of smoked game. This wine is as exotic and seductive as they get.”

Only 2 barrels, 50 cases produced and last year’s release only lasted a few months.  Available for sale at our restaurants for $56.00 per bottle or $14.00 per glass.
