ESTATE comes alive during the holiday season with festive decorations and twinkling lights that are not to be missed.  Just stopping by for dinner is an event!

You don’t want to miss ESTATE’s Christmas Eve Dinner of Seven Fish.   Bring family or friends to partake in this seven course seafood feast that is fast becoming one of our favorite holiday traditions.  Make your reservations soon – space is limited!

the fig cafe will be closed for a private party on New Year’s Eve, but the girl & the fig and ESTATE will both be open and ready to celebrate the New Year with you!  The chefs at the girl & the fig are busying preparing some special treats in addition to our regular menu, and guests at ESTATE will enjoy a complimentary bottle of prosecco for the table, so be sure to stop by at either location to help us countdown the New Year!

Featured Retailer: Lucy’s Whey

This month we are sending congratulations to lucy’s whey – an artisan cheese shop that opened in East Hampton, New York, in 2007.   In November, lucy’s followed some of her summer customers back to their winter homes in New York City, and now those customers can shop at the newly-opened lucy’s whey in Chelsea Market.  Of course, we are celebrating not only their new shop, but the fact that they allowed the girl & the fig products to follow too!   The Village Voice noted the opening and included a very important photo!

Catherine Bodziner, creator of lucy’s whey, credits the origin of her passion for artisanal cheeses to her first wine tasting trip to Napa Valley years ago.  She has since become an expert on the farms throughout the northeast who supply her stores.  Visit  their blog archives to read stories behind the small production ventures that have elevated the U.S. reputation among cheese lovers worldwide.

Featured Recipe:  Chocolate Pots de Crème
from the girl & the fig Cookbook

1 cup milk
3/4 cup heavy cream
7 ounces bittersweet chocolate, roughly chopped
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
6 egg yolks
1/3 cup sugar

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Place the milk and cream in a saucepan and bring to a boil.  Remove from the heat.  Add the chocolate and vanilla, cover and allow the chocolate to melt.  In a large bowl, whisk the egg yolks and sugar.  Remove any foam.  Stir the chocolate mixture until smooth and consistent and slowly whisk it into the egg mixture.  Strain the mixture and chill until cool, about 1 hour.

Place 6 ramekins in a baking pan.  Fill the ramekins with the chocolate mixture and pour boiling water into the baking pan.  Cover the pan with foil.  Bake in the water bath for about 1 hour or until just set.  Eat straight from the oven, or refrigerate for 2 hours and then serve.

Our Fig Family is Growing!

A big congratulations to Dustin Villa, Sous Chef with the girl & the fig CATERS, and wife Jennifer, who welcomed baby Mateo into their family in October.  What a precious little bundle!

We are also eagerly waiting the arrival of  another new addition any day!  Erica Wisner, Event Manager with the girl & the fig CATERS, and husband Chris are expecting their first child any day.

Congratulations to both sets of new parents!
