A Call for Entries from the girl & the fig

In celebration of our upcoming 13th anniversary in August, the girl & the fig is launching what we hope to be a long term collaboration with you – our customers, friends, fans, and fellow fig lovers!  fig leaflet: words and images (working title) is the first volume in what we hope to be an annual fig-related publication with 100% of the profit donated to charities.  And, we want you to be involved!

For the first volume, we are asking for your submissions of art, poetry, stories, photography, etc. Submissions must be G-rated, fig related and completely original works.  Please see our submission guidelines for complete details on how to submit your entries.

The best part?  Prizes! A jury panel will choose the top three entries by blind selection to receive a Grand Prize for first place and additional prizes for the first and second runners up.  We’ll also have a People’s Choice Award that will be decided by our fans on Facebook.  Even if you don’t win a prize, all entrants whose work is selected to be published will receive a free copy of the book.

We’re excited to see your entries, and we’d love for you to be a part of our latest project!

Introducing Très Bonnes Années 2008

We are thrilled to announce the release of Très Bonnes Années 2008, which will be on our wine lists later this month!  Our fourth bottling, this wine has been specially made for us again by Jeff Cohn of JC Cellars using Syrah grapes from Rockpile Vineyard.

Winemaker’s Notes: Elegance, finesse and a laser beam pureness of Rockpile terrior best describes what this wine is all about, but that would not tell the whole picture.  One might say this wine is an outlier of what Rockpile is known for (wines of structure, intense fruit and layers upon layers of complexity), but they would be wrong.  Aromatically this wine has tons of black cherry, but also has a roasted earth component that makes it so intriguing to smell.  It draws you in to discover that minerality again, but layered with crème de cassis and that ever present French vanilla bean and freshly picked lavender.  A lush mouth feels that echo’s the aromatics, but shows the sensuous side of Rockpile.  Silky and alluring as one wine should be allowed!  A broad specturm of textures and flavors make this wine the perfect dance partner for all types of food.

Be sure to visit the girl & the fig or the fig cafe soon to taste for yourself.
