Hospice du Rhone Update

Sondra, John and Amy, our Wine Buyer at the girl & the fig, just returned from a fabulous, albeit slightly rainy, weekend in Paso Robles where they attended one of our most favorite annual events: Hospice du Rhone.  If you’re not familiar with the event, Hospice du Rhone is a three day long gathering of international Rhone wine producers and enthusiasts and is packed full of seminars, tastings, special events, and a live auction.

Featured Cocktail: The Aviation

This month we will highlight the classic cocktail, The Aviation. John Wilson, the day bartender at the girl & the fig, introduced me to this drink a few months ago and it has become one of my new favorites.

1.5 oz of London dry gin (I chose Beefeaters)
.5 oz of Luxardo Maraschino liqueur
juice of half a lemon
splash of simple syrup* (.25 oz)

Shake all the ingredients and pour into a well chilled martini glass.  Garnish with a lemon twist.

*Simple syrup is equal parts sugar and water boiled lightly then cooled.

This cocktail is light and refresing, a nice balance between tart and sweet and has a great aroma that should really be experienced.

Happy Anniversary!

Happy Anniversary to Mark O’Donnell, bartender at the girl & the fig, and Julie Kantor, our accounting manager!  Both had their 7 year anniversary with the girl & the fig in April, and we are looking forward to many more!
