An Anniversary Thank You…

This month, the girl & the fig is turning 14!  We have had so much to be thankful for over the last 14 years, from the openings of our various ventures to the chance to participate in so many beautiful events in Wine Country and beyond, plus so much more!  But what we are most thankful for is YOU: our customers, employees, friends, and supporters. We wouldn’t be here today without you, and we extend a sincere thank you to you for your support and patronage over the last 14 years!

Featured Retailer: Wedge & Bottle

Troy and Krista Daily opened their specialty wine, beer and cheese shop, Wedge & Bottle, in Phoenix in May and instantly became good customers of the girl & the fig.  Maybe it has something to do with their yummy sandwiches that incorporate our black mission fig jam and red onion confit as added taste treats. (Check out their menu page!)

Like many retailers their specialty shop is the fulfillment of a long-time dream.  Troy has a hospitality/management degree from Scottsdale Culinary and Krista has a background in interior design.  They started with the concept of a wine bar, but an article on Foster & Dobbs in Portland (a long-time customer of ours) planted the cheese shop idea.  A training with Steve Jones at Cheese Bar in Portland and the surge in American artisan cheese making confirmed that working with cheese was the perfect fit for them.  Krista says, “We get a great response with our girl & the fig products because many of our customers have traveled to Sonoma, and it reminds them of vacation!”  Well, that was exactly Sondra’s intent when she decided to make her products available beyond the restaurant.  Thanks to Wedge & Bottle, they now can be found in Phoenix!  ♦ Shop Now!  Or, if you want to bring FIG FOOD closer to home, let your favorite area specialty food store know about our products, or suggest a store to us!

Congratulations to our three “newest” chefs!
Erin Smith (pictured above at left), our new Chef de Cuisine at the girl & the fig, has worked with us as a Sous Chef for the last 5 years.  Chef Erin brings a great dedication, strength and skill to the position, and we’re very excited to have our kitchen under her leadership.

Uriel Ortiz (pictured above in middle) has taken on the position of Chef de Partie at ESTATE, and will be taking the lead on the menus for special events held at the property.  Chef Uriel has worked with us for the last 11 years in various capacities and brings a great passion with him to the position.

Brian West (pictured above at right) is now our Chef de Cuisine at ESTATE after working with us for the last year as Sous Chef.  With such a great skill and talent, we are looking forward to having Chef Brian lead our kitchen at ESTATE.

In other fig family news, we have had two recent milestone employee anniversaries!  Juan Acosta, Sous Chef at the fig cafe, and Leo Gonzalez, Cook at the girl & the fig, have both been working with us for 10 years.  Thank you to both for all of your dedication and hard work!
