THE NEW BOOK IS IN!

Join Sondra Bernstein and Executive Chef John Toulze to celebrate the release of Plats du Jour, the girl & the fig’s Journey Through the Seasons in Wine Country at their Holiday Open House and Book Signing Party on Saturday, December 10 from 11:30 am to 3 p.m at ESTATE in Sonoma.

Featuring over 100 recipes and wine pairings for the home cook, Plats du Jour is their expression of love for seasonal French-country cooking. And, it offers a glimpse into what gives Sonoma its distinctive character through Sondra’s personal stories about the farmers, ranchers, cheese makers and vintners she considers partners.

Sondra & John will sign books, and the folks from Domaine de Nizas will pour their artisan wines. Local Wine Country artists, food purveyors and friends will showcase gift treasures for last minute Holiday shoppers.
Aperitivo and antipasti will be served to guests throughout the event, including some nibbles from the book.

The special pre-release book price will be extended through the party. If you have already purchased a book, it will be available to pick up when you arrive. If you can’t join us on December 10th, order your book on-line, or other goodies at the figstore.

We have invited some special guests to the Book Launch/Open House at ESTATE on December 10th, to assist you in your last minute holiday shopping.

We may look like “just” a special occasion destination but don’t let our good looks fool you. ESTATE is your place for cocktails & nibbles, aperitivo & antipasti, bubbles & brunch, pizza & pinot or family-style dining with La Cena Di Famiglia.

Not that we don’t like to party. Our Wine Room seats up to 24 and the Main Dining Rooms seat up to 26 in each room. You can buy out the whole restaurant and have up to 100 friends.

Jill Foucré opened Marcel’s Culinary Experience this past September in the village of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, a town of 27,000 residents 23 miles west of Chicago. It was her lifelong dream to combine her family heritage, her love of cooking and entertaining, and her highly successful business skills into a retail and cooking school destination. The shop offers high-quality cooking tools, gourmet foods and unique tableware.

Named after Jill’s grandfather, a French chef and restaurateur, Marcel’s goal is to be a gathering place to cook, create and celebrate. Jill designed a state-of-the-art kitchen for cooks of all ages and skill levels. She employs a staff of professionals who offer a full calendar of demos, classes and special events. Her “Meet our Chefs” page is a charming read, sharing the special experiences that shaped their various paths to the love of food.

We are delighted that Jill chose our products as a result of her visit to Sonoma and recommends our dining experience to those planning a visit to California Wine Country. Thanks to her vision, she and her staff are helping all ages expand their knowledge and enjoyment of culinary traditions from around the world.

TASTE THE BOUNTY from the girl & the fig farm project

Did you know that we work a 2.5 acre biodynamic farm at Imagery Estate Vineyards in Sonoma Valley?  You have enjoyed the fruits of our labors at the restaurants. Our chefs create their seasonal menus from the bounty we harvest there.

Travel with Sondra in the south of France in May! Our first port is Sète,  the Mediterranean’s biggest fishing port. Canals winding through town make it fun to stroll around, and there are a number of good walking paths leading to the beach.
